Curriculum of universities might soon undergo a change. All the universities across the country have been asked to review their curriculum in a bid to make students passing out more employable.
In a communication sent to all the universities and their affiliated colleges by UGC on Wednesday they have been asked to urgently bridge the gap between the skill sets of the students and the jobs available in the market.
This follows a recent meeting of the group of secretaries convened by the Prime Minister.
“In a recently held meeting.. it was recommended that curricula of all academic departments in universities be reviewed and revised at least once in every three years,” reads the letter.
All the universities have been asked to accord top priority to the matter and take immediate action. “So that the curricula of various programmes offered at the university are revised and adopted for quick implementation by your university and the colleges affiliated to it,” secretary UGC Jaspal S. Sandhu said in his letter.
They have also been told to focus on the existing and potential demand and supply of skill sets to make the students employable while reviewing the academic curricula. Universities have been asked to address the issue on an immediate basis so that it is implemented soon.
