Ashwin struck in the final over of the post-lunch session with the wicket of Finch, who was caught by Pant after he had got an inside edge.

Finch walks back for 11 as Australia are reduced to 28 for one in 12 overs at the tea interval.

Marcus Harris is unbeaten on 14, with the hosts still needing another 295 runs for victory.

10:03  Australia off to a good start:  

Left-hander Harris is beaten as he pokes at a full wide delivery before he steers the next past the slips for three runs to the vacant thirdman region.

Finch then plays a long way away from his body as he tries to drive a wide delivery from Bumrah but can’t beat the fielder in the covers.

Ishant from round the wicket drops short as Harris rocks back and cuts it past point for the first four of the innings and then takes a single.

Spin introduced early as Ravichandran Ashwin comes in to bowl the eight over of the innings.

The first ball is short as Harris goes back and cuts it but can’t beat point. He picks a single off the fifth ball and Finch does the same off the last ball to keep strike.

India end up giving away two extra runs courtesy of an overthrow as the fielder at square leg has an unnecessary shy at the stumps with the batsman back in his crease.

Ishant overpitches as Finch gets a big stride forward before hitting it crisply through the covers for his first boundary.

Harris is able to clip Ashwin off his pads through square leg for two runs as Australia reach 25 for no loss in 10 overs, still needing another 298 runs for victory.

Ishant Sharma strikes early and again it is Aaron Finch, who is trapped leg before wicket for a duck. He consults his partner Marcus Harris before he decides to take the review.

And that turns out to be a good review as Ishant has overstepped which means Finch narrowly survives else he would have been given out on the umpire’s call.

The next ball again comes in sharply as Finch looks to flick it across the line and misses but this time the leg before shout is turned down.

Finch finally connects with the fourth ball, flicking it past midwicket for three runs.

Ishant immediately switches to round the wicket to left-hander Marcus Harris, who leaves the first two balls, which are wide, before clipping the last ball to square leg for one to get off the mark.

Jasprit Bumrah from the other end. Left-hander Harris prefers to watchfully play out the over from the fast bowler as he starts with a maiden.

Ishant bowling a bit wide to Finch as he offers no shot to four of the deliveries in the pacer’s second over.

In the next over, Harris taps Bumrah on the off-side for one before Finch turns it on the leg side for a single.

09:13  India bowled out for 307; set Aus 323 for victory:  

Nathan Lyon took six wickets as India were bowled out for 307 in their second innings, setting Australia 323 for victory, on Day 4 of the first Test.

Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara hit half-centuries before India collapsed in the post-lunch session, losing their last five wickets for 25 runs. Infact, the last four wickets fell for the addition of just four runs.

Rahane hit 70, while Pujara made a solid 71 as the duo put on 87 runs for the fourth wicket to build India’s lead.

But Lyon kept Australia in the hunt with wickets at regular intervals.

After dismissing Kohli late on Day 3, Lyon got the wickets of Pujara, Rohit (1), Rishabh Pant (28), Rahane and Shami on the fourth day.

Starc picked up three for 40, while Josh Hazlewood took one for 43.

There is still four and half sessions left in the match and with the pitch offering a lot of turn, India will be hoping Ashwin can make an impact with the ball and take them to victory.

Ishant gets an edge off Starc trying to defend but it falls short of the first slip fielder before the pacer again bowls it way down the leg side for four byes.

Ishant then keeps out a full delivery but is beaten last ball.

Bumrah looking to come forward at every opportunity and defend Lyon off the front foot and manages to play out the over.

Starc ends India’s innings with the wicket of Ishant who is caught at short leg for a duck. A well-directed short delivery which Ishant looks to defend but ends lobbing it on the leg side as Finch completes an easy catch.

08:54  Lyon picks 6th wicket; India 9 down:  

Lyon comes back into the attack and strikes with the wicket of Rahane. The India vice-captain, who made 70 from 147 balls, attempts the reverse sweep but ends up miscuing it on the off-side and is caught by Starc at point.

That wicket helps Lyon complete his five-wicket haul in the innings, in his 41st over.

Lyon strikes again off the very next delivery as Mohammed Shami comes down and swings high but only to Harris at deep midwicket to fall for a duck!

Lyon has six wickets and is on a hat-trick!

Jasprit Bumrah avoids the hat-trick as he watchfully defends a full delivery off the front foot and does the same next two balls.

India are looking to change gears and score runs quickly. Rahane goes hard after a wide delivery from Starc but is beaten before he clips the next to fine leg for one.

Ashwin then tries to upper cut a short ball over the slips but fails to make connection.

Rahane sweeps Lyon fine for two runs on the leg side before he slashes the fifth ball square for another couple and repeats the shot last ball for two more runs as India go past the 300-run mark, in the 102nd over.

Ashwin (5) perishes cheaply as he pulls as short ball from Starc straight into the hands of Marcus Harris at deep square leg.

Ishant Sharma is beaten first ball as Starc gets the ball to move away sharply before he offers no shot to the next two balls and watchfully defends the last ball.

Ashwin caught in two minds as he initially decides to pull the short ball from Starc but bails out at the last minute as it bounces high and goes over the wicketkeeper for four byes.

He then takes a single as India’s lead goes past the 300-run mark.

Ashwin, on 4, gets a lifeline as he chips down the track to Lyon, fails to get to the pitch and is beaten by some sharp turn but wicketkeeper Paine fails gather and misses an opportunity to make the breakthrough and concedes three byes.

Three more singles from the over as India continue to build their lead.

Nathan Lyon to kick off proceedings with the ball after the lunch break. Rishabh Pant continues his aggressive approach as he comes down the track to the third ball and lofts it over midwicket for a four.

He gives Lyon the charge again and gets it over the leg side for another four.

Pant looks in the mood as he makes it three fours in a row, lofting Lyon over mid-on.

No stopping Pant as he comes down and heaves Lyon over the square leg fence for a six as 18 runs come from the first over of the session.

Pant has smashed his way to 28 from 15 balls, with four fours and a six.

Pacer Mitchell Starc from the other end. Rahane makes his presence felt as he plays a cracking over drive for a four to get going after the lunch break.

Australia persist with Lyon despite being hit for runs by Pant and it proves to be a good decision.

Lyon gets revenge with the wicket Pant, who is caught at sweeper cover for a quickfire 28 from 16 balls.

Ravichandran Ashwin steers Lyon past point for two runs to get off the mark and clips the last ball on the leg side for one.

07:40  Rahane hits fifty to steer India to 260-5 at lunch:  

Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara hit half-centuries to extend India’s lead on Day 4 of the first Test against Adelaide on Sunday.

Rahane was unbeaten on 57, while Rishabh Pant was on 10 as India reached 260 for five in 95 overs at the lunch interval, to stretch their lead to 275 runs.

Resuming on 151 for three, India’s batsmen were hardly troubled in the morning session. Pujara once again stood tall with the bat, with a solid innings of 71, as he put on 87 runs for the fourth wicket with Rahane.

Nathan Lyon gave Australia something to cheer for in the morning session with the wickets of Pujara and Rohit Sharma (1).

07:18  Rohit fails with the bat; India 5 down:  

Lyon gets Rohit cheaply as the right-hander is caught at silly point for one. He comes forward to block but the ball turns sharply and goes off the pads on to the bat with Handscomb taking a good sharp catch to his right.

Rishabh Pant takes no time to get going as he gives Lyon the charge first ball he faces. He fails to make proper connection but manages to clear mid-off for a couple to bring up India’s 250.

The next ball turns and bounces sharply as Pant is beaten all ends up trying to defend.

07:13  Rahane hits fifty as India extend lead:  

Hazlewood tries a sort ball to Rahane who pulls it to deep square leg for two runs to take the lead past the 250-run mark. He repeats the shot again two balls later but this time just for a single.

Rohit Sharma gets a beauty first up, moving away enough to beat the right-hander’s loose poke outside the off-stump.

Rahane ensures that India don’t lose the momentum as he gives Lyon the charge and lofts him over midwicket for a four.

In the next over, Rohit gets off the mark with a single on the leg side before Rahane pulls a short ball over midwicket for a four to bring up his fifty from 111 balls.

He drives the last ball through the covers for a couple.

07:02  Pujara out for 71, India lose 4th wicket:  

Change of ends for Hazlewood but no change in luck for the Aussies. Rahane is able to comfortably defend the over, getting just a leg bye from the last delivery.

Rahane continues to use his feet to good effect as he comes down the track and drives Lyon down the ground past mid-off for three runs followed by two singles.

It is Lyon, who makes the breakthrough for Australia with the main wicket of Pujara. The right-hander is caught at short leg as he looks to defend but gets it off the gloves as Lyon gets some sharp turn.

Pujara walks back after a good innings of 71 from 204 balls, putting on 87 runs for the fourth wicket with Rahane. Infact, Pujara has kept Australia’s bowlers at bay throughout the game, having played 200 or more deliveries in both innings.

06:44  Pujara, Rahane put India in control:  

Australia take the second new ball immediately as Mitchell Starc comes back into the attack.

The third ball is overpitched as Rahane drills the half-volley straight back past the bowler for a lovely boundary.

He guides the fifth ball on the off-side for one before Starc strays the last ball down the leg side as it beats the wicketkeeper and goes for four byes.

Josh Hazlewood back into the attack from the other end as a confident Rahane is able to see off the over easily.

Starc struggling with his rhythm as he again sprays it way down the leg side as Tim Paine dives to his left and gets a hand but is unable to prevent four byes.

Another short ball which slants across is cut over the point region uppishly by Pujara for a four as he makes his intent clear.

Just a single over for Hazlewood with the new ball before spinner Lyon is called back into the attack.

Rahane immediately jumps down the track and chips the second ball on the leg side as it falls short of deep square leg for a single.

Rahane shuffles across and tries to sweep Lyon but fails to make connection before he nudges the third ball behind square for one and Pujara clips the next ball to midwicket for another run.

In the next over, Pujara turns a short ball from Cummins to square leg for a single to bring up India’s 200, in the 77th over.

Rahane then tries the upper cut as Cummins again bowls short but fails to make connection. He pulls the next ball to fine leg for another single to take his score to 30.

Lyon comes forward to defend as he gets an inside edge which goes off the pads but Finch at short leg has no chance as it falls a long way away to his left.

The two batsmen pick a single each before Rahane attempts the sweep but is beaten.

Cummins has a field set up for the short ball with a few close-in men around the bat but he pitches it up on the stumps as Pujara clips it through midwicket for two runs.

A couple of short balls which Pujara defends with caution before he nudges one fine on the leg side for a four.

A single to Rahane off Lyon in the next over to take India to 210 for three in 80 overs, for an overall lead of 225 runs.

06:01  Pujara, Rahane take India’s lead past 200:  

Pat Cummins comes into the attack as Australia’s pacers struggle on the slow Adelaide pitch.

Cummins fails to make an impression either as Rahane and Pujara pick a single each before the pacer bowls a high bouncer and is ruled a wide, in the 71st over.

Rahane has been quite positive with his footwork against spinner Lyon on Day 4. Once again he comes down to the pitch of the ball and drives the spinner straight back past mid-off for three runs before Pujara sees out the rest of the over.

In his next over, Lyon has Rahane caught at short leg before the batsman decides to review it.

Rahane comes down the track and then decides to defend as the ball turns sharply and goes off the pads to short leg. The Snicko and Hot Spot confirm that the ball has clearly missed the bat or gloves as the decision is overturned and Rahane stays on.

This is the third DRS decision that has been overturned against Lyon, twice against Pujara.

A frustrated Lyon then drops short as Rahane pulls it for a four through midwicket to take India’s lead past 200.

Three more singles as India reach 191 for three in 74 overs, for an overall lead of 206 runs.

In the next over, Rahane drives Cummins on the up as he smashes it through the covers for a four and then takes one on the off-side to raise the 50-run stand for the fourth wicket from 103 balls.

Change of ends for Starc and he bowls a half-tracker which Rahane hammers through the covers for a four and then pulls the fifth ball for a single to deep square leg.

In the next over, Rahane looks to clip Lyon as it goes uppishly but falls short of the fielder at midwicket before he comes down the track and defends and somehow keeps the last ball out as it turns sharply.

Starc switches to round the wicket but Pujara is unmoved as he solidly blocks the over.

Lyon drops short as Rahane pulls him to deep square leg for one before Pujara is beaten outside the off-stump.

Lyon has a heavily packed off-side field but Pujara has no problems as he pulls a short ball over midwicket for a four.

05:21  Pujara hits half-century to swell India’s lead:  

Starc drops short as Rahane cuts it past point for a couple and then tries the pull shot two balls later but fails to make proper connection.

Hazlewood sticks to a full line and length in the channel outside the off-stump and Pujara is happy to block out the over.

No surprise as off-spinner Nathan Lyon comes into the attack in place of Starc, after the pacer had bowled just two overs on Day 4.

Rahane comes down the track to the first ball and drives it down to long-off for one.

Pujara cuts the next ball behind point for three runs to complete his half-century from 140 balls, to follow up on his century from the first innings.

Rahane keeps strike with a single from the last ball to long-on.

Pacer Mitchell Starc opens the bowling for Australia on Day 4. The first ball is a full delivery to Ajinkya Rahane, who blocks it watchfully and does the same with the next ball as he plays out the opening over.

India will be looking to extend their lead and bat Australia out of the game, while on the other hand, the hosts would be aiming for early wickets and bowl out India as early as possible.
