Actor Ranjini calls Sasikala's elevation a ‘criminal coup', appeals to President to intervene

Adding her voice to the growing chorus of opposition to AIADMK leader VK Sasikala, veteran actor Ranjini spoke out on Facebook against Sasikala’s elevation to the post of leader of the legislative party.

With O Panneerselvam resigning the post of Chief Minister soon after Sasikala was elevated, the decks have been cleared for Governor Vidyasagar Rao to swear her in as the next CM.

“I am raising my voice for the people of Tamil Nadu… how can we accept Ms Sasikala Natarajan to be The Chief Minister? What qualifications does she has apart from being AMMA’s personal servant… Does The Mannargudi Mafia thinks that the people of Tamil Nadu are STUPID?” actor Ranjini wrote in her Facebook post on Monday.

“My plea to the people of Tamil Nadu, please rise and stand against this monstrosity… the world saw the power of youngsters for ‘Jallikattu’, now I would like to see the people’s power to overthrow this nonsense… AIADMK was founded by The Charismatic and lovable actor and Chief Minister, The Late MGR, after his demise, the beloved AMMA took charge and she has done her justice effectively,” she added.

Ranjini even went so far as to call Sasikala a “criminal”,  and added, “I sincerely hope that The President of India, Mr Pranab Mukerjee will impeach this criminal ‘coup’.”

“Tamil makkal, please stop Sasikala the criminal from becoming The Chief Minister and save AIADMK… a leader should possess good qualifications and experiences to take-up an important role. To become a Chief Minister, it even requires more… people think about how Sasikala barricaded everyone from AMMA during her last days,” she wrote.

The AIADMK has faced a strong barrage of criticism since Sasikala’s elevation to legislative party leader on Sunday. Besides scathing criticism from the main opposition parties, widespread discontent among a section of the population has also been visible on social media.
