Even as the AIADMK General Council formally pronounced its resolve to accept the leadership of Sasikala Natarajan on Thursday morning, the party’s cadres and supporters had already begun to celebrate the transition.
While Chief Minister Panneerselvam went with party leaders Thambidurai and Edappadi Palanisamy to Poes Garden to present the resolution to the newly-appointed General Secretary, back at the Vanagaram venue of the GC meeting, a change of decorations was quickly evident.
Soon after the resolution was passed, the posters outside the venue changed from featuring Jayalalithaa alone, to featuring photos of Sasikala and Jayalalithaa together. And over loudspeakers outside the venue, which had been playing AIADMK’s official songs since the morning, a celebration in song to welcome ‘Chinnamma’ began to sound.
The song, which opens like a track from the Shankar film “Mudhalvan”, appeals to Sasikala to lead the party and praises her as their leader.
The fervent anthem, with the refrain “Welcome Chinamma”, refers to Sasikala as “mother”, the moniker Jayalalithaa had been known with.

“Oh symbol of sacrifice, personification of justice, tender-hearted, God’s house, save the party, the god we see with our eyes, we fall at your feet, Amma chinnamma, like the Kaveri water leaps and comes in joy, Amma has taken rebirth and come as chinnamma with a smile and showing the two fingers victory sign,” says the first stanza of the song.
The track lauds her for standing by “Amma’s side”, compares her to god and glorifies her for her sacrifices.
