Left-arm chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav comes into the attack. And he strikes in his very first over with the wicket of Bravo, who gets the edge and is caught by Rohit at slip to perish for 23 from 18 balls. The India captain does well to react quickly and hold on to a sharp catch with barely any time to get his hands on it.

Nicholas Pooran is beaten off the first ball before he paddle sweeps the next ball for a four to get off the mark.

Pooran is completely deceived by the wrong one as he plays for the leg-spinner and is bowled for four.

Khaleel bowls a wide down the leg side to Bravo before the left-hander takes a single. Hetmyer powerfully smashes a length ball from the pacer past mid-on for a four. Two balls later, he pulls a short ball over the midwicket region for another boundary as Windies look to counter-attack after a slow wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah is called into the attack in place of Bhuvneshwar, who bowled a tight spell of two overs for eight runs.

The second ball is down the leg side as Bravo glances it fine for a four and then inside edges the next ball for a single.

A single to Hetmyer off the last ball as Bumrah concedes just six in his first over.

In the next over, Hetmyer steers a wide ball from Khaleel fine on the off-side for a four. He tries to loft the next ball back over the bowler’s head but ends up hitting it straight into the hands of Dhawan at long-on.

Pacer Paul comes back into the attack. Rohit takes a single off the first ball on the leg side before Rahul drives the next ball through the coves for two runs.

Rahul tries to reverse the next but fails to make connection. He lofts the fourth ball back over the bowler’s head but fails to get hold of it as Pollard running in from long-on puts down a tough chance diving forward.

Good bowling from Paul as he bowls another dot ball to Rahul, who manages just a single off the last ball as the pacer gives away just six runs in the 19th over.

Brathwaite to bowl the final over. Rahul takes a single off the first ball to bring Rohit back on strike, who is batting on 92.

The bowler delivers a full toss as Rohit throws his bat but gets a thick outside edge past short thirdman for a four.

Rohit then walks across and paddles a full toss the fast bowler over short fine leg for a boundary to complete his century in grand style from 58 balls.

And it goes from bad to worse for the Windies. Rohit defends the third ball on the off-side and looks for a quick single as Brathwaite tries to hit the stumps at the batting end but misses and gives away four over throws.

Rohit then lofts a full delivery over long-off for a six and picks a single off the last ball.

He finishes on a quickfire 111 not out from 61 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes, to power India to a huge 195 for two in their 20 overs.

Rohit comes down the track and lofts spinner Pierre back over his head for a straight six despite getting it off the bottom of the bat.

Pierre gifts Rohit a full toss which he hits through the gap between point and short thirdman for a four to take his score into the 90s.

Rohit takes a quiet single on the off-side before Pierre struggles with his line and ends up bowling two wides in a row.

Rahul joins in the party as he clubs a length ball straight back over the bowler’s head for a six.

He reverse sweeps the last ball and picks up a couple as he fails to make clean connection as Pierre goes for 21 runs in the over.

20:18  Pant falls for 5; India lose 2nd wicket:

Pacer Oshane Thomas comes back into the attack. He starts with a short wide delivery which Rohit steers uppishly over point for a four before he takes a risky single off the next.

Three dot balls in a row before Rishabh Pant gets off the mark with a single off the last ball.

Pant wasting no time in getting going. He flicks a full delivery from spinner Pierre through midwicket for a four.

He slog sweeps the next ball but hits it straight into the hands of Hetmyer at deep midwicket to perish for five as the youngster suffers another failure in international T20s.

Rohit takes spinner Allen to the cleaners as he sweeps the first ball over midwicket for a six. He comes down the track and lofts the second ball over the same region and again it carries all the way for another six.

Rohit, on 71, then hammers the third ball straight but the bowler is unable to hold on to a tough chance.

Dhawan swings the fifth ball over midwicket for two runs before he tries the reverse sweep but fails to connect as it is ruled a wide.

Dhawan sweeps the last ball uppishly but Pooran at deep square leg manages to hold on to a tough running catch.

Dhawan walks back after scoring 43 from 41 balls, having put on 123 runs for the opening wicket with Rohit.

20:05  Rohit slams 38-ball fifty, India race past 100:

Rohit turns a full delivery from Paul for two runs to deep midwicket to race to his fifty, from just 38 balls. The next ball is short and wide as Rohit cuts it past point for a four as India go past the 100-run mark, in the 13th over.

Rohit has another swing but this time it goes off the outside edge for two runs to thirdman followed by one.

19:45

Carlos Brathwaite comes into the attack. Dhawan drives the first ball to sweeper cover for a single to bring up his 1000 runs in T20 internationals while raising the 50-run stand for the opening wicket.

Dhawan is the sixth Indian to get to the 1000-run mark in T20s, while Rohit has the most number of runs in T2 Internationals.

A wide down the leg side to Rohit as the umpire rules it wide quite late after the batsman had expressed his shock at not being called and umpire Anil Chaudhary had a late change of mind.

Rohit then picks a single before Dhawan clips the third ball square on the leg side for two runs and then takes one.

Two more singles as eight come from Brathwaite’s first over.

Another change as left-arm spinner Fabian Allen is brought into the attack. Dhawan turns the first ball through midwicket for two runs and then takes one.

Rohit nearly chips it back to the bowler but it falls just short as the decision is confirmed by the TV umpire followed by singles off the last two balls.

Dhawan miscues the pull shot, lobbing it straight to Keemo Paul at deep square leg, who puts down a straightforward catch and also ends up giving away a boundary. The next ball is again pulled but this time on the bounce to the same fielder for just a single.

Rohit shows how it is done as deposits the short ball from Brathwaite over square leg for a six.

Two balls later, he again plays the pull shot, this time for a boundary to the left of the square leg fielder for a four.

No stopping India, who have raced away to 78 for no loss in nine overs.

Thomas oversteps to give away a free hit but this time Dhawan swings it through midwicket for a four. Two balls later, he cracks a full delivery through the covers for another boundary.

A single off the last ball as Thomas goes for 17 runs in his third over, after he had conceded just four runs in his first two overs.

Rohit has cut loose. In the next over, he lofts spinner Pierre back over his head for a six over long-on. He smartly taps the next ball to long-off to pick up a single before Pierre bowls a leg side wide to Dhawan, as the wicketkeeper fails to collect and gives away another extra run.

12 runs from the over as India race to 49 for no loss in six overs, with 38 coming from the last three.

Rohit has cut loose after a slow start to smash 25 from 21 balls, while Dhawan has made 19 from 17 balls.

19:20  India off to a good start:

Dhawan has fallen three times to Thomas, twice in the ODIs and in the first T20I, and no wonder he is a bit watchful against the fast bowler.

Dhawan taps the pacer on the off-side and steals a quick run and Rohit guides the second ball to thirdman for one.

A couple of singles each to the two batsmen before Dhawan blocks a short ball on the off-side as just four runs come from the over.

A change in the bowling as spin is introduced in the form of left-armer Khary Pierre. The first ball is pitched up as Rohit lofts it over mid-off for a four. The fielder is pushed back and Rohit drives the next ball to long-off for one.

Dhawan turns the third ball through midwicket for two runs and then takes one before Rohit picks one off the last ball to retain strike.

19:10  Windies elect to bowl; Bhuvneshwar replaces Umesh:

Pacer Oshane Thomas to open the bowling for Windies and facing him will be the two experienced Indian openers — Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan.

Rohit offers no shot to the first two balls which are bowled wide before he blocks the third on the off-side. He defends the last three deliveries as Thomas starts off with a maiden.

Keemo Paul from the other end. Dhawan turns the first ball on the leg side for a single to get off the mark before the pacer bowls a wide. A single each to Rohit and Dhawan before Paul oversteps and gives away a no-ball with Rohit also taking a quick single.

Dhawan is unable to make most of the free hit delivery as he is foxed by the change of pace, he attempts a wild cross batted swing but fails to make connect before he takes a quick single off the last ball to keep strike.

18:36  Windies elect to bowl; Bhuvneshwar replaces Umesh:

West Indies captain Carlos Brathwaite has won the toss and elected to bowl against India in the second T20 International in Lucknow.

Hosts India, who lead the three-match series 1-0, made one change as pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar replaces Umesh Yadav.

West Indies also made one change as Nicolas Pooran came into the team in place of Rovman Powell.

The newly-built Lucknow stadium, which is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will make it’s international debut.

18:27  Dominant India eye another series win vs Windies:

Welcome to the coverage of second T20 International between India and West Indies in Lucknow on Tuesday.

India’s four-match losing streak in T20 Internationals against the West Indies ended on Sunday in Kolkata as they claimed a five-wicket win in the three-match T20I series opener. And in the penultimate game of what has been a disastrous tour for the visitors, India would be favourites to lock the series in their favour.

The five-wicket win in Kolkata might have looked a bit laboured for the hosts but the absence of batting talisman and captain Virat Kohli cannot be discounted.

It was also the first T20 International for which India dropped Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the colossus whose batting form has been on the wane but the cricketing brain and reflexes behind the stumps remain assets for the team.

Rohit Sharma is leading the side in Kohli’s absence and the 31-year-old usually thrives with the additional responsibility of captaincy.

But Sunday was a rare failure for the Mumbai right-hander and he would look to make up for that with a big knock on Tuesday

Besides Rohit, opener Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, the young Rishabh Pant, and Manish Pandey also had a bad day in office in the series-opener.

It took a responsible 34-ball 31 from Dinesh Karthik and a nine-ball 21-run unbeaten cameo from debutant Krunal Pandya to steer India home in 17.5 overs.

But on Tuesday, Lucknow, which is hosting its first international match at the newly-built Ekana Stadium, would be eager to see a more dominant performance from the home team, one that’s befitting the gulf in quality between the two sides.

On the bowling front, left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav stole the limelight with brilliant figures of 3/13 from his four overs, while left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed (1/16) and Pandya (1/15) were economical.

West Indies, on the other hand, would be desperate to return home with some positivity at the end of a two-month long series in which they have lost both the Test and ODI series.

While two-Test series was lost 0-2 in just six days of action, they posed some challenge in the subsequent ODI series before being thrashed 1-3 with a nine-wicket loss in Thiruvananthapuram in the fifth and final one-dayer.
