Former Uttarakhand chief minister ND Tiwari dies on his 93rd birthday

Former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand chief minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari died in Delhi on Thursday. He was 93.

Tiwari, who died on his birthday, had been admitted to the Max Super Speciality Hospital in Saket in September 2017 after suffering a brain stroke

The politician was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital on October 26. He was suffering from fever and pneumonia.

A team of doctors was monitoring his condition in the ICU round the clock.

The veteran politician had been associated with the Congress almost all his career before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in January 2017. Chief minister of Uttar Pradesh three times in the 1970s and 1980s, he also became the chief minister of Uttarakhand when Congress came to power in the first election held in the hill state which was carved out of Uttar Pradesh in 2000. He has also served as Union minister and governor.
