Four Odisha policemen killed in Maoist landmine blast

At least four police personnel were killed and seven others injured in a landmine blast this evening suspected to have been set off by Maoists in Odisha’s Koraput district close to Andhra Pradesh border.

“While four bodies have been recovered so far, the whereabouts of another jawan are being ascertained. Seven injured personnel have been shifted to hospital,” a senior police officer engaged in anti-Maoist operation told PTI.

The explosion took place near Mungarbhumi on Sunki ghat, barely one km from Andhra Pradesh border, in the Maoist-affected Koraput district, the officer said.

At least 12 police personnel, most of them drivers, were on their way to Cuttack in a truck when the landmine went off, the official said adding that police teams have been rushed to the spot.

The blast was suspected to have been triggered by the red rebels operating in Andhra-Odisha border areas, police said.
