14-month-old girl raped by grandfather in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh’s reputation as an unsafe place for girls took another hit with police saying that a 14-month old girl was raped by her grandfather (father’s uncle) in Vidisha district.

The assault on Saturday is the latest in Madhya Pradesh which has been rocked by the rape of minors being in Mandsaur, Gwalior and Satna in the past one month.

Lateri police station sub-inspector Banwarilal Malviya said that the incident took place on Saturday night, 50 km from the state capital Bhopal. The accused Gajraj Singh Bhil (38) had gone to his nephew’s place and on the pretext of playing with his grand-daughter, he took her some distance away and then sent her back to her home with one of his brothers around half an hour later.

However, the mother found that her daughter was crying from pain and there were some injury marks in her private parts. Relatives took her to the Sironj government hospital, where a doctor who examined her confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.

The accused who is absconding has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
