Mahendra Singh Dhoni becomes first India wicketkeeper to take 300 ODI catches

Mahendra Singh Dhoni Saturday added another feather to his cap in an illustrious career, becoming the first India wicketkeeper to take 300 catches in ODIs. The former skipper reached the landmark when he caught England’s Jos Buttler off Umesh Yadav in the second ODI of the three-match series at Lord’s. (ENG vs IND 2nd ODI LIVE)

With this, Dhoni became the fourth international keeper to achieve the feat, after Australia’s Adam Gilchrist (417), South Africa’s Mark Boucher (402) and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (383).

During the T20 series against England, which India won 2-1, Dhoni became the first keeper to take 50 catches, as well as five catches in an innings, in the shortest format.

In 320 ODIs, he has effected 107 stumpings, the most by any keeper. Dhoni also has 407 dismissals in ODIs, the most by an Indian and fourth overall.

England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat in a must-win clash for the hosts.

Both teams were unchanged from the opening game, which India won by eight wickets at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Another victory at Lord’s would see India win the series with a match to spare.
