Narendra Modi in UP Live: Dynastic parties trying to prevent development, says …

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day tour of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, visiting his parliamentary constituency Varanasi and laying the foundation stone for the 340-km Purvanchal Expressway in Azamgarh.

During his visit, the prime minister will inaugurate several development projects, with those in Varanasi alone estimated to be worth Rs 1,000 crore.

PM Modi is expected to address rallies in Varanasi, Azamgarh and Mirzapur during his visit.

PM Modi attacks Congress over washout of Parliament sessions

On to the triple talaq issue, PM Modi said Congress party doesn’t allow Parliament to function and are stalling the passage of bill.

Without naming Congress president Rahul Gandhi, PM said the leader has claimed Congress to be a party for the Muslims. “I want to ask if it is a the party for Muslims only for men or also for women? Is their place for respect and dignity of Muslim women? They stop the law in Parliament, create ruckus and don’t allow the Houses to function,” said PM Modi.

Purvanchal expressway to connect eastern UP with Delhi

The 340 km-long, six-lane Poorvanchal Expressway will connect Lucknow with various towns of eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Barabanki, Amethi, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.

This project will also connect Delhi via expressway to several major towns and cities of UP, such as Noida.

Samajwadi Party claims credit for expressway project

The Samajwadi Party has claimed that the Purvanchal expressway project was the brainchild of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who laid a foundation stone for the same stretch in December 2016.

SP workers staged a demonstration at the Azamgarh district collectorate on Friday, saying the party was being denied credit.
