If BJP tries to break PDP, result will be dangerous, says Mehbooba Mufti

PDP president and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Friday issued a strong warning to former ally Bharatiya Janata Party that efforts to break her party could have “dangerous consequences”.

“Our party is intact and strong. There are problems just like we have problems in families. The breakup within the PDP can only happen with the support of Delhi. If they (Delhi) will do the same what they did to Muslim United Front (MUF) to crush it … with the PDP it will have dangerous consequences,” Mufti said after paying tributes on Kashmir Martyrs Day in Srinagar.

This is the first time Mufti has blamed Delhi for trying to break the PDP after five to six legislators openly spoke against her and revolted against the party.

She said if Delhi tries to dismiss the voting rights of the people of Kashmir like it did in 1987, creates divisions and interferes in the state “Salahuddin and a Yasin Malik” will be created.

National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah rebutted, saying “not one new militant will be created” in case of the breakup of the PDP.

“People will not mourn the demise of a party created in Delhi only to divide the votes of Kashmiris,’” Omar tweeted.

“She must really be desperate if she is threatening the centre with renewed militancy if PDP breaks up. She seems to have forgotten that militancy in Kashmir has already been reborn under her most able administration,” he added.

Mufti resigned in June after the BJP ended its three-year alliance with her party citing rising security crisis in Jammu and Kashmir. The state was placed under governor’s rule on June 20.
