Forced to jump off second floor, girl dies during mock drill in a Coimbatore co…

A 19-year-old student died during a mock drill conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in a Coimbatore college on Thursday, police said.

A video of the incident shows the girl, N Logeswari, standing on the ledge on the second floor of the college building and being assisted by NDMA trainer TR Arumugham. She appears to be reluctant.

Eyewitnesses allege the girl was not willing to jump. The trainer then pushed her and she fell hitting her head on the ledge of the floor below.

She was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital, police said.

Logeswari was a second year student of a BBA course at the Kovai Kalaimagal College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore.

“National Disaster Management Agency had conducted the mock drill in Logeswari’s college. As part of the drill, the NDMA personnel had asked the boys and girls to jump from the second floor,” police said.

A case has been registered against trainer TR Arumugham.
