1st ODI: Kuldeep picks 3rd wicket, Bairstow out for 38

18:12  Kuldeep picks 3rd wicket, Bairstow out for 38:

Another one over spell for Chahal before he makes way for part-time off-spinner Suresh Raina with two left-handers out in the middle.

He makes a very good start, bowling a maiden over to England captain Morgan as India look to squeeze the pressure after three quick wickets.

Ben Stokes gets off the mark with a risky single on the off-side with just one run coming from Kuldeep’s third over, who has taken three for eight in his first three overs.

Just two runs and two wickets in the last three overs as England are reduced to 83 for three in 15 overs.

They were cruising on 71 for no loss after 10 overs, but have since then lost three wickets for 12 in the last five overs.

18:04  Kuldeep picks 3rd wicket, Bairstow out for 38:

Change of ends for Chahal as he takes over from Hardik and he sends down a tidy over, giving away just four singles.

Kuldeep strikes again in his next over, this time with the wicket of Root, who falls leg before wicket for three.

The right-hander plays down the wrong line and is trapped plumb in front of the wickets.

Eoin Morgan gets off the mark with a single to long-off before Bairstow iis totally foxed by the googly trying to play across the line but the umpire is not interested as India appeal for LBW.

Kuldeep is totally convinced as India decide to take the DRS. The impact is in line and ball is going on to hit the stumps which means Kuldeep has his second wicket of the over.

Bairstow walks back after a good knock of 38 from 35 balls as England are reduced to 82 for three in the 13th over, losing three wickets in the space of 16 balls.

17:58  Roy out for 38, England lose 1st wicket:

Chahal is taken off after just one over as he makes way for Kuldeep Yadav. He strikes in his first over with the wicket of Roy, who miscues the reverse sweep and is caught in the covers after scoring 38 from 35 balls.

Joe Root gets off the mark with a single before Bairstow picks two from the next ball courtesy of an inside edge followed by one off the last ball.

17:47  Openers Roy, Bairstow give England a good start:

India introduce spin early as leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack. Just three singles from five balls before Roy makes up for it as he reverse sweeps the last ball for a four through point.

Another bowling as all-rounder Hardik Pandya comes into the attack. He drops short as Roy pulls it behind square for another four to take his score to 33, the same as his partner Bairstow.

Two balls later he punches it down the ground but Kaul at mid-off gives the chase and manages to pull it just inside the ropes with a slide and keep it down to just two.

The first five overs produced just 26 runs before England’s openers cut loose to score 45 from the next five to take the total to 71 for no loss in 10 overs.

17:40  Openers Roy, Bairstow give England a good start:

Roy takes a single off Kaul on the leg side before Bairstow punches a wide delivery through the covers for a four to take his score to 20, with all of them coming from boundaries (5 fours).

He takes a single off the next, before Roy smashes the fifth ball through the covers for another four followed by one to get 11 from the over.

Umesh bowls it wide as Roy hits it square on the off-side for a four. The thirdman is brought in as Umesh again bowls it wide and this time Roy shows good awareness to steer it past the same fielder for another boundary followed by two singles to get 10 from the over.

In the next over, Bairstow clubs a short ball from Kaul over midwicket to take England past the 50-run mark in the eighth over.

After a steady start, the two openers have managed to up the tempo, scoring 30 from the last three overs to reach 56 for no loss in eight overs.

17:26   England off to a steady start against India:

Umesh gets one to bounce more than expected as Roy gets a thick outside edge which falls safely for a single on the off-side.

Umesh pitches the next one right up as Bairstow slaps it down the ground for a four past mid-off. The next ball is short of good length as Bairstow punches it through the covers for another boundary.

Nine runs from the over as India reach 20 for no loss in three overs.

Kaul sticks to a good line and length, bowling to his field on the off-side and ends up giving away just a single in his second over.

Roy, who has struggled to seven from 14 balls, drives uppishly straight back at Umesh, who fails to hold on to the sharp chance on his follow through.

A good over is spoilt by a poor delivery from Umesh as he slips it down the leg side with Bairstow glancing it fine for a four as England reach 26 for no loss in five overs.

17:10  India elect to bowl against England; Kuldeep back:

Umesh Yadav starts off with a beauty, full and moving away as Jason Roy gets an edge trying to play the drive but it flies of Suresh Raina in the slips and goes for a four.

Virat Kohli bring himself at second slip as Umesh pitches it up and gets some movement forcing Roy to defend watchfully.

He then picks a leg bye before Jonny Bairstow is beaten by one that moves away before he is struck on the back pads off the last ball as it comes in sharply but the umpire turns down the leg before appeal.

India decide against taking the DRS but the ball tracker shows that the impact was in line and it was going on to hit the stumps. India would regret not taking the DRS.

Debutant Siddarth Kaul to bowl the second over. Roy drives the first ball on the up outside the off-stump as Rahul does well with a dive in the covers to stop it and give away just a single.

The fifth ball is short as Bairstow pulls it comfortably through square leg for a four for the first boundary of the match as five come from the second over.

16:40  India elect to bowl against England; Kuldeep back:

India captain Virat Kohli has won the toss and elected to bowl against England in the first ODI in Nottingham.

Kohli has no problems chasing despite the fact the last time England were put into bat at this venue, they posted a massive 481 against Australia.

“Our strengths are different, with the two wrist spinners bowling in the middle overs. We chased well in the T20 series against England,” reasons the India captain.

India have brought back left-arm chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav back into the team in place of Deepak Chahar as the only change in the team which played in the third T20 against England.

For England, Alex Hales misses out as Moeen Ali comes into the team.

16:25  India start as favourites against England:  On a high after an impressive Twenty20 series win, an upbeat India will eye another dominant performance against hosts England in a three- match ODI series, starting in Nottingham, on Thursday.

The three-match ODI series will give Virat Kohli & his team an ideal opportunity to get a drift about the conditions that his men are expected to encounter at the 50-overs World Cup at exactly same time next year.

While India will be buoyed by their 2-1 T20 series win, England, the top ranked ODI team in world cricket, come into the series having crushed a below-par Australia 6-0 in their last bilateral engagement.

England have been one of the finest 50 over sides in recent times and India will have their task cut against a batting line-up comprising Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Jonny Bairstow and Eoin Morgan.Add Ben Stokes to it and England bear a formidable look.

Yuzvendra Chahal is a certainty as the wrist spinner and Kuldeep Yadav, who has created all sorts of doubts in the minds of the batsmen, may just comeback into the playing XI as the Trent Bridge ground is much bigger than the one at Bristol.
