Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh channels his inner Gabbar, video goes viral

West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said at a public meeting in Jalpaiguri in north Bengal on Tuesday that Trinamool Congress leaders who try to coerce their opponents will face ‘encounters’ and not a single bullet would be wasted.

A video of Ghosh at the meeting went viral on Wednesday.

Raising his fist in a manner as if he was holding a pistol, Ghosh, who has a reputation for confrontational speeches, quoted villain Gabbar Singh from the blockbuster movie Sholay while the crowd cheered.

“Gabbar Singh asked ‘kitni goli hai iske andaar’? (how many bullets are there in this gun?). Well, we will make every bullet count. Ruling party leaders using force and controlling the police and administration will either be in jail or face encounter,” Ghosh said.

“We will reply to their bullets with bullets, their bombs with bombs and their lathis with lathis. We have not signed a legal bond saying our tolerance has no limit,” Ghosh added.

The district police has lodged a suo motu FIR against Ghosh. Rabindranath Ghosh, local Trinamool heavyweight and north Bengal affairs minister said, “This is a criminal statement. He (Ghosh) should be put in jail.”

The BJP state president was leading a protest against an attack on BJP workers during and after panchayat polls in Bengal. He even named Trinamool’s Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal, referring to the latter by his nickname, Keshto. Mondal too is known for confrontational statements.

This is not the first time Ghosh has invited controversy for a speech. Before the recent rural elections he said the battle for political control would end in crematoriums if the need arose.
