Castigating the administration for its failure to handle the situation after snowfall, CPI(M) State Secretary Ghulam Nabi Malik has said the tall claims made by the authorities on their alertness have been exposed by the massive power breakdown, road blockades faced by the people.

It seems the government has not learnt anything from the past experiences when the people used to face problems during heavy snowfall, he said, adding the power system, road connectivity, drinking water facilities get adversely affected during this period.

The government should have been ready to face the challenge and taken remedial measures to meet out the exigencies, Malik said.

He said people have been badly hit due to heavy snowfall and all the public utilities including power, drinking water, road communication, health services came to a grinding halt in Kashmir Valley.

“People suffering from ailments are not able to reach nearby hospitals and medical centres due to heaps of snow on both interior and main roads,” Malik said.

The CPI(M) leader demanded that immediately snow cutting machines should be deputed to the far flung areas of the Valley so that roads be cleared immediately and any major untoward incident can be avoided.

Expressing shock over the deaths in the avalanches and other snow-related incidents in the Valley, he demanded compensation and jobs for the family members of the civilians killed.
