Pointing out that since attaining statehood in 1987 Goa has seen only three Governments with full mandate, Singh said his party will ask voters to give it a clear majority.

“We will urge the Goan people to give us a clear mandate so that this multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi religious State can be kept together. We would like secular forces to unite to defeat communal BJP,” he said.

When pointed out that the main Opposition party has been lacking in campaigning, the former Chief Minister said, “The Goa electorate is highly conscious politically. They closely follow the activities of political parties.

“The time of big rallies is over. Campaigning has now shifted door-to-door and on social media. I am happy to note that on Facebook Congress is miles ahead of AAP and BJP.” Singh said in the party’s campaign activists of NSUI, its student wing, and Youth Congress have made an impact on social media. “Congress always encourages youngsters, we have a fine young team.”

The Congress leader said five former Chief Ministers from the party are still active in politics.

“There are strong regional leaders in Goa. There are five ex-Chief Ministers. It was not easy but we have managed to bring them together. They are very cooperative,” he added.
