Three Maharashtra soldiers among those killed in Kashmir avalanche

Three soldiers from Maharashtra were among the 14 army personnel killed in avalanches in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gurez sector.

Indian Army’s Northern Command through its official Twitter account released the names of the deceased soldiers on S.

Sepoys Anand Gawai and Sanju Suresh Khandareare belong to Akola, while sepoy Vikas Samndare hailed from Beed district of Maharashtra, the official release stated.

All the jawans were in their 20s. Gawai and Samundare were unmarried, said the release.

The weather in Gurez and Sonamarg area remained packed up today, therefore mortal remains of the martyrs could not be airlifted to Srinagar, it said.

If the weather is favourable, the bodies will be airlifted tomorrow, according to the statement issued by the Army.

The subsequent transportation from Srinagar to New Delhi and further to respective native places by IAF is planned for January 29, the statement said.
