Madhya Pradesh: Coach of Patalkot Express catches fire near Morena station; situation under control

A major tragedy was averted on Wednesday evening when the seating-cum-luggage rake (SLR) coach of Patalkot Express caught fire between Morena and Dhaulpur railway stations.

“The information about the fire in the SLR coach was received about 5:40 pm when the train reached Sikroda, a station about 12 kilometers from Morena,” said a railway official.

Assistant Station Master (ASM) of Morena G S Sengar informed that the staff at Sikroda noticed smoke emanating from the SLR coach, which was attached at the tail end of Patalkot Express (number-14624). The train was immediately stopped and the coach was detached from the train to avoid the spread of fire to other coaches, he added.

Sengar informed that the traffic on this route was stopped immediately following the incident and steps are being taken to re-start the traffic. He said that the fire tenders and the team of railway police were sent to the spot from Morena.

He informed that no casualty was reported as nobody was there in the SLR coach but some goods kept in the SLR were damaged in this incident. The fire has been controlled, he added.

The train runs between Delhi Safdarjung and Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh.
