Ritu Kumar’s Lakmé Fashion Week collection, titled Hip Hop Baroque, was a blend of street couture and rap culture.
The designer was inspired by the rebellious spirit of past subcultures.
But she re-contextualized her designs to make them feel fresh and original.
The color palette was a study of contrasts…
… Blacks, blues, and metallics interspersed with ecru, baby pink and ochre.
The collection mixed prints and introduced new-age textiles like shimmer jersey, Lurex georgette and handloom sequins.
Actor Taapsee Pannu captured the essence of the collection.
‘We are excited to have Taapsee Pannu walk for our show,’ Ritu Kumar’s son Amrish Kumar (right), CEO of the designer’s company, said. ‘Taapsee is known for her spunk and joie de vivre and this collection is a perfect fit to her style. She is looked up to as a fashion and fitness icon by a huge audience and the youth who are also the consumers of the brand.’
