England 162-2 (25 ovs) vs India 381-6 | Scorecard

Jadeja drops short as Roy cuts it past point for two runs and then pulls the next ball through the leg side for a four with singles coming from the other deliveries to give away 10 from the over.

Meanwhile, that early wicket seems to have settled down Ashwin, who concedes just a single in his second over with new batsman Eoin Morgan playing four dot balls.

Lot of instructions for Jadeja from Dhoni behind the wickets as he asks him to keep it simple and not trying too many things.

Roy looking to keep the runs coming against the spinners as he picks the gaps for ones and twos, allowing Morgan time to get his eye in.

England are still in the hunt, as they cross 150 in the 24th over.

Roy targets Ashwin as he lofts him straight down the ground over the fielder at mid-on and gets it right off the middle for a straight six.

Jadeja bowls another quick over, conceding just four singles, as England reach 162 for two in 25 overs at the halfway stage, needing another 221 runs in 25 overs for victory at nearly nine runs per over.

They would hope that Roy continues to bat till atleast the 40th over, he has batted freely after a quiet start to hit 76 from 69 balls.

England 128-2 (20 ovs) vs India 381-6 | Scorecard

Jadeja just darting the ball in, not giving the batsmen anything to work with as he bowls another tight over, he has conceded just 18 runs in four overs.

Still no signs of Ashwin as Pandya continues. He bowls another short wide delivery as Root makes room and drives it past the fielder at point for a four.

Two balls later, Roy pulls a short ball which goes through the fingers of Bumrah at midwicket to give away a four. That was a tough chance for Bumrah as it went quickly over him and he barely got time to react.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who bowled poorly in the first match, makes the perfect start with the ball.

He strikes in his very first over with the key wicket of Root, who looks to slog sweep but gets a top edge and is caught on the leg side after scoring 54.

Earlier in the over, both batsmen had completed their half-centuries and looked set for a long vigil out in the middle before Ashwin struck just at the right time for the Indians.

Root and Roy rallied England after an early wicket, as they put on 100 runs from 96 balls for the second wicket.

Bhuvneshwar, who bowled a good first spell of five overs for 23 runs, makes way for left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who makes a tidy start as he concedes just four singles.

Double change as Hardik Pandya comes on from the other end, replacing Bumrah, who took one for 37 in five overs in his first spell.

He gives away just a single in the first five balls before Roy spoils the over by pulling the last ball over midwicket for a four.

18:35  England lose early wicket after India post 381:

England 50-1 (8 ovs) vs India 381-6 | Scorecard

Bhuvneshwar bowling a good spell with the new ball, keeping it up and looking for some swing. Only two singles from his third over, he has been quite giving away just 13 runs in three overs to keep England quiet at the start.

Bumrah gives Root some width as he hits it through point for a four and later in the over Roy steers a wide delivery from Bumrah through the vacant thirdman region for another boundary.

But at the other end, Bhuvneshwar keeps it tight as he bowls another good over by giving away just two singles. This is absolute top class bowling by the pacer on a flat wicket with nothing at all for the bowlers.

India have a packed off-side field for Bumrah but Root still manages to find the gap between the two fielders stationed close to each other at point for a four, to bring up England’s 50, in the eighth over.

Some drama in the middle as Dhoni swings a full toss from Woakes over the leg side but the ball hits the spidercam cables and is declared a dead ball.

This is Dhoni’s 200th six in ODIs, the first Indian to achieve the landmark.

He completes his century with a single off a pull shot to deep square leg off 106 deliveries.

But the crowd have to stop their celebrations midway as Woakes gets the wicket of Yuvraj with the last ball of the over.

Yuvraj gets an edge and is caught behind after a stunning innings of 150 from 127 balls, having hit 21 fours and three sixes.

He put on 256 runs for the fourth wicket with Dhoni to rescue India, who were reeling on 25 for three at one stage.

India 273-3 (42 ovs) vs England | Scorecard

England have still not budged from their short ball tactics and it is proving to be very costly for them. Woakes bowls a bouncer which Dhoni pulls fine on the leg side for a four and then takes a single to take his score to 90.

Yuvraj throws his bat at a wide delivery as it is taken by wicketkeeper Buttler as England’s players appeal for a catch behind which is upheld by umpire Anil Chaudhary.

Yuvraj instantly goes for the DRS and replays confirm that the ball bounced before the wicketkeeper had taken the catch and the left-hander survives.

Infact, Dhoni straightaway went for DRS when he saw the ball goes off Yuvraj’s bat and bounce before going to the keeper.

In the next over, Yuvraj takes a single to go past the 150-run mark in ODIs for the first time in his career, and it has come off just 126 balls, laced with 21 fours and three sixes. A special innings from the left-hander as he shines in his comeback just when everyone had thought he was past his best.

The last five overs have gone for 47 runs and India look set for a total around the 325-run mark unless they mess up at the end.

Woakes bowls another short ball to Yuvraj which he pulls over midwicket for a six. No stopping the left-hander who seems to be in the attack mode as India look to lift the tempo going into the death overs.

Yuvraj now has 1461 runs in 36 ODIs against England, the most by an Indian batsman against England, going past Sachin Tendulkar’s record.

Stokes bowls a full wide delivery as Dhoni throws his bat but gets a thick outside edge for just a single.

He flays his bat another wide one for a single to sweeper cover and Dhoni picks one off the next ball to long-on.

Yuvraj plays another good drrive off the last ball but gets just one as India reach 261 for three in 40 overs.

England making the mistake of bowling short at Yuvraj which on this slow track is sitting up nicely for the left-hander. He pulls Ball twice over midwicket with relative ease for two boundaries in the 36th over as the runs continue to flow for the Indians.

Woakes, who took three wickets in his first spell, comes back for a new spell. Just two singles from the first two balls before Dhoni swings it high over the leg side for a six over long-on to raise the 200-run stand for the fourth wicket from 32.1 overs.

He raises his arms up in celebration and thumps his chest and gets a huge ovation from his colleagues in the dressing room and the packed stands at the Barbati stadium.

15:42  Dhoni, Yuvraj hit 50s to lift India in middle overs:

India 168-3 (30 ovs) vs England | Scorecard

Dhoni turns Moeen on the leg side and the former captain sprints back for two runs. He then misses out on a full toss, driving it straight back to the bowlers. Moeen then drops short and again Dhoni can’t get hold of it as he mistimes it to short fine leg.

However, Dhoni makes up for it as he launches Moeen high over midwicket for a six and takes a single from the last ball to keep strike.

England are desperate to make a breakthrough as Plunkett is called back into the attack. Dhoni gets a leading edge as he looks to turn it on the leg side but Jake Ball running back from mid-on is unable to judge it as he misses the opportunity and also gives away a four.

With India looking to get after Moeen, England take him off and bring back Stokes. Dhoni throws his bat at a wide delivery but gets an edge which evades a diving wicketkeeper Jos Buttler and goes for a four.

That boundary brings up Dhoni’s half-century from just 68 balls, having hit six fours and a six.

He flicks the next ball off his pads through fine leg for another four as India continue to build their score in the middle overs.

India 141-3 (27 ovs) vs England | Scorecard

Left-arm pacer Willey comes into the attack, replacing Stokes, who bowled four overs for 24 runs.

The first ball is pitched up as Yuvraj flicks it stylishly through midwicket for a four before he takes a single to raise the 100-run stand for the fourth wicket, from 118 balls.

Dhoni punches the fourth ball down the ground, getting enough to beat the man at mid-off for the second four of the over to take India to 132 for three in 25 overs at the halfway stage.

The pitch looks an absolute beauty and India would do well to post a total well in excess of 300. They would also do well to consider the dew that would hamper their bowlers in the second half.

Moeen bowling a good spell as he bowls four dot balls to Yuvraj, who then gets a single to mid-on and Dhoni takes one to make it just two runs from the over.

Willey again errs with his length, dropping short as Yuvraj pulls it over midwicket for a four and then takes one to take his score into the 80s.

A few deliveries later, Dhoni chips down the track and smashes Moeen straight down the ground for the second four of the over to take India past the 100-run mark, in the 23rd over.

Yuvraj in full flow at the moment. A full delivery from Stokes is launched over long-off for a six and three balls later he pulls a short ball behind square on the leg side for a four as Stokes goes for 13 runs in his fourth over.

15:00  Yuvraj, Dhoni rally India after a horror start:

India 92-3 (20 ovs) vs England | Scorecard

No signs of spin yet from England as pacer Ball continues. Yuvraj looks to pull but misses before he gets an edge two balls later which goes to the right of the wicketkeeper for a four and he keeps strike with one from the last ball.

England make a change in the bowling as Ben Stokes replaces Plunkett, who bowled three overs for 17 runs.

Yuvraj plays away from his body, driving it uppishly to thirdman for a single to bring up the 50-run stand from 69 balls.

Yuvraj looked in supreme touch as he punches Stokes straight down the ground for another gorgeous boundary past the bowler and mid-off as he takes his score to 40 from 43 balls, having hit eight fours so far.

England introduce spin as off-spinner Moeen Ali comes in to bowl the 18th over. Yuvraj chips down the track and flicks it along the ground to deep midwicket for two runs before taking one followed by two more singles to make it five runs from the over.

England are looking to dry up the boundaries and build the pressure but Dhoni and Yuvraj are content to milk the bowlers and deal in ones and twos at the moment.

India continue their recovery as they reach 92 for three in 20 overs, with Yuvraj on 47 from 54 balls and Dhoni on 21 from 41 balls.

Dhoni flicks the first ball through midwicket for a couple for his first runs after playing out two maiden overs from Woakes and then takes a single.

Yuvraj takes a big forward stride and drives an overpitched delivery from Plunkett through the covers for a four. Two balls later, he plays the straight drive to perfection for the second boundary of the over before he plays another cracking cover drive, which is half stopped for just a single to race to 27 from 24 balls.

Dhoni finally gets his first boundary, off the 23rd ball he faces, cutting a short ball from Ball over point for a four as India recover to 64 for three in 14 overs.

Dhoni plays a cheeky late cut, steering a wide delivery from Plunkett fine on the  off side for a four. The former India captain is shuffling a long way across the stumps to block the short balls from the England pacers.

India have recovered to 69 for three in 15 overs, with Dhoni on 15 from 31 balls and Yuvraj on 30 from 34 balls, with the duo having added 44 runs so far to rally the Indians after a horror start.

14:20  Woakes destroys top order as India struggle with the bat:

India 43-3 (10 ovs) vs England | Scorecard

Yuvraj and Dhoni taking their time to get their eye in as they look to repair the damage caused by the three early dismissals.

Two singles from Willey’s third over before Woakes bowls another maiden over, his second on the trot, he has given away only 14 runs in his four overs so far.

Yuvraj releases the pressure and brings the crowd back to life with three fours off new bowler Jake Ball, in the eighth over.

Ball attempts another short delivery to Yuvraj, who pulls it fine on the leg side for another four as India rally to reach 43 for three in 10 overs, with Yuvraj on 18 from 20 balls and Dhoni on 1 from 15 balls.

13:58  Woakes claims 3 quick wickets to leave India in tatters:

India 25-3 (5 ovs) vs England | Scorecard

India have another close shave as Dhawan is dropped by Woakes on his follow through, who was unable to get low on his left to take a sharp chance. The left-hander then throws his bat at a wide delivery slanted across but is beaten.

Two balls later, Dhawan finally perishes as he throws his bat at a wide but only manages an inside edge which goes back on his stumps.

Dhawan is bowled for 11 to leave India in tatters at 25 for three in the fifth over.

A wicket maiden for Woakes, who boasts of excellent figures of three for 14 in three overs.

India’s two most experienced batsmen — Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh — face a huge task ahead of them.

13:49  2nd ODI: Kohli fails with the bat, India in trouble:

India 22-2 (3 ovs) vs England | Scorecard

Left-arm pacer David Willey to bowl the second over. Dhawan cuts the second ball but can’t beat the fielder on the off-side but he gets the next two balls perfectly in the gap through the covers for back to back fours.

Willey gets a little bit swing but his length is a touch fuller and Dhawan doesn’t need a second invitation to drive those through the off-side.

Willey bowls another outswinger as Dhawan looks for the drive again but this time he is beaten before he confidently defends the last ball of the over.

Woakes strikes with the first ball of the second over. Rahul is squared up as he looks to defend one which moves away but gets an edge which is nicely taken by the second slip fielder.

Rahul is dismissed for five for his second successive failure in the series.

Captain Virat Kohli strides out to the middle as England look to try something different for the in-form right-hander by employing a 7-2 field with men packed on the off-side.

But nothing seems to bothering Kohli at the moment as he taps the first ball straight back past the bowler for a boundary to get off the mark in smashing fashion. Two balls later he repeats the shot as Woakes again overpitches for another delightful boundary straight down the ground. This is already looking ominous for England with Kohli getting the middle of the bat right from the start.

But Woakes stuns the crowd into complete silence with the BIG BIG wicket of Kohli, who goes after a wide full delivery but gets an edge as Stokes brilliant catch to his left at second slip. A strange shot from Kohli who intially thought it was a yorker and tries to defend but ends up playing a nothing shot to get the edge.

Dangerman Kohli makes his way back for just eight to leave India in trouble at 22 for two in three overs.

What a dramatic over by Woakes  W 4 . 4 . W

13:35

13:05  England elect to bowl, Bhuvneshwar replaces Umesh:   England captain Eoin Morgan has won the toss and elected to bowl against India in the second ODI in Cuttack.

The visitors believe that dew could play a part in the second half of the match and that seems to have had a bearing on their decision to bowl first.

India have made one change to their line-up as Umesh Yadav gets a break, making way for fellow pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

England have also made one change with medium pace all-rounder Liam Plunkett taking the place of leg-spinner Adil Rashid.

India lead the series 1-0 following their three-wicket victory in Pune when they chased down a mammoth 351 for victory courtesy of magnificent centuries from Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav.

12:56  India aim to seal series in Cuttack, do-or-die for England:   Welcome to the coverage of the second One-Day International between India and England, in Cuttack, on Thursday.

The hosts are once again ready to show their ruthless streak as they aim for a series clinching victory against England at the Barabati stadium.

With captain Virat Kohli leading from the front as he continues his golden run with the bat — playing one magical knock after other, notching up 300 plus scores has been like a walk in the park for the Indians.

it was Kedar Jadhav, who matched his skipper stroke-for-stroke during his 65-ball-hundred in the first ODI in Pune on Sunday.

As the teams gear up for the second ODI at Cuttack, the visiting England team will certainly feel a bit deflated after failing to defend a total of 350 despite having got four top-order batsmen back in the hut for less than 100.

India have a good record at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, where they have won 11 out of their 15 ODI games.

While the Indian bowling was taken to task by the England batsmen on a Pune flat track, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh’s failure with the bat was the only blot in their victory. It will be interesting to see if India continue with Yuvraj at No. 4 and Dhoni at No. 5 or if they swap their batting positions and give the latter more time to settle down and get his eye in.
