Kerala woman fights back molestation bid in broad daylight; history-sheeter arr…

The Kerala police on Sunday arrested a man from Kozhikkode after a video of him trying to stalk and molest a woman went viral.

In the video the man was seen walking ahead of a woman in a narrow alley in the city. When they reached a secluded spot, he walked in a huff and overpowered the victim in seconds. But when the gutsy woman fought back a scuffle ensued. Though she fell on the ground she raised an alarm. The assailant tried to drag her to a nearby spot but he fled when she cried for help. He was seen escaping half-naked after his lungi slipped.

However, the scared woman did not report the incident to the police. The police registered a case following an online outrage and later arrested Jamsheer, a history-sheeter. The shocking visuals were captured by a CCTV installed by a resident association in the nearby spot. It was posted online by one of the residents and it soon turned viral.

“The incident happened on the evening of October 18 near YMCA road. We have identified the accused and he has been arrested. The man, a painter by profession, was earlier involved in a couple of cases including stalking and indecent behaviour,” said a senior police officer from north Kerala.

The region is known for better law and order statistics and being women-friendly but the latest incident has sent shockwaves across the state.

The incident surfaced a day after a 16-year-old girl was attacked on a busy street in Mumbai in full public view for reportedly asking the man to “talk softly”.
