BJP chooses to remain mum after Congress V-P Rahul Gandhi’s blistering attack

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi who was under constant attack from BJP leaders for his utterances and actions, finally seems to have stumped them with a blistering counter-attack from the US.

The BJP and the government were silent about Rahul’s jibes at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “inability to create jobs”. Unlike on September 12, when the government deployed Smriti Irani and a host of other minist-ers to attack Rahul on his dyn-asty remarks at the University of California, Berkeley, there was none countering for his remarks at Times Square in New York.

“What has happened to the tolerance that used to prevail in India? …”Rahul said. While ministers and the party chose not to react to this, party general secretary Ram Madhav chose Twitter to retort. “Jobs not created, UPA lost. Jobs not created, Modi los- es. I m ready 2b PM. How 2 create jobs, I donno – Congress excited. Beta bol to raha hai,” he wrote.

BJP’s social media department head Amit Malviya shared a video on Twitter, where Rahul was seen describing Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and other veterans as NRIs. Madhav also shared the video with a headline “Another gem of wisdom. Gandhi, Nehru NRIs. Congress was NRI movement”.

BJP defended its silence saying it did not merit any reaction. “His remarks on dynasty was highly condemnable and created an outrage on social media,” BJP spokesman GVL Narsimha Rao said. “Whatever he said afterwards does not merit a reaction.”

“We made a point after his speech at University of California and feel there is no need to respond to him anymore,” a BJP leader said. Leaders said the government was doing eno-ugh on the job front, and engaging with Rahul at this juncture did not serve any purpose.
