‘What’s wrong in forming an alliance with BJP?’ asks TN dairy development minister

Three days after the Madras High Court announced that local body elections must be conducted in the state by November 17, Tamil Nadu Dairy Development Minister K T Rajenthra Bhalaji said that there is nothing wrong in having an alliance with the BJP.

Addressing the media in Chennai on Friday, when asked if AIADMK party form an alliance with the BJP in the future, Rajenthra Bhalaji was quick to respond, “What is wrong in forming an alliance with BJP. Modi is trying to make India a super power. He has not done anything wrong. AIADMK has had alliances with BJP twice for parliamentary elections. Both AIADMK and DMK parties have had alliances with BJP.”

When asked if they will form an alliance in the local body elections, he said that the senior leaders of the party, Chief Minister and deputy Chief Minister will take a decision on this matter.

This comes amidst protests across Tamil Nadu against the NEET examination. After the death of medical aspirant Anitha on September 2, protesters have been blaming both the state and the central government for her death.

However, Rajenthra Bhalaji has been known to make controversial statements. On May 24, 2017, Rajenthra Bhalaji had made serious allegations against the private milk companies claiming that they sell adulterated milk which was the cause of cancer in many children. The minister said, “Milk sold by private dealers is definitely adulterated. The milk that is banned in Kerala is being sold in Tamil Nadu according to my investigation.”

In July, the Madras High Court had ordered Tamil Nadu Dairy Development Minister K T Rajenthra Bhalaji not to make allegations against private companies without substantiation.
