Even after Union Railway Minister promised Pranjal Patil her allotted job in railways on Twitter a week back, nothing has changed. In fact, Patil says that the DoPT (Department of Personnel and Telecommunications) has allotted her a job in the postal and telecommunications department and that the railways is seeking legal opinion on her appointment.
After DNA carried the story of Pranjal Patil, 28 who was refused her allotted job in Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), Prabhu quickly tweeted that the DoPT has been instructed to give her the allotted posting.
A sceptical Patil refused to believe the ‘Twitter’ promise and waited for communication from DoPT, which never happened. “This week, I met Prabhu personally and he said that I would be given the allotted job,” says Patil.
However, when she inquired with DoPT, she learnt that she has been given a post in the P&T (Post and Telecommunications) Department. “I was also told by T Jacob, additional secretary, DoPT, that the Railways is seeking legal opinion on my original allotment (IRAS),” alleges an exasperated Patil.
When DNA contacted Jacob, he directed us to Kuldeep Singh Dhatwalia, Additional Director-General (ADG), media, DoPT, who was not aware about the issue. He, however, said that jobs are allotted to candidates as per merit and options. “If she has qualified for a group A job, she will be given a group A job,” says Dhatwalia.
He said that he is not aware about the legal opinion sought by railways. Anil Saxena, ADG, PR (public relations), railways, said that he is also not aware about the issue and the matter is with DoPT. While both DoPT and Indian Railways continue to pass on the buck, the situation remains as grim as earlier for Patil. “I should have been given the original allotment as promised by the minister,” she says.
The case so far
In May 2016, Pranjal Patil, 28 a visually impaired woman from Ulhasnagar clears UPSC with the 777the position in the all-India merit rank. She is allotted a job in the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) and is supposed to undergo training from December 2016. In the first week of December, she learns that her dossier has been rejected by IRAS as she is 100 per cent visually impaired. On January 3, the matter is reported by the media. On January 4, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu tweets that she has been allotted the original posting.
