We decided to drop  an item number from Sathriyan: Director SR Prabhakaran

A fter a successful debut venture in the form of Sundarapandian, which was followed by the underwhelming Idhu Kadhirvelan Kadhal, director SR Prabhakaran promises an action entertainer laced with sentiments in Sathriyan ahead of the film’s release on June 9.

“The big task was to retain the core family audience who thoroughly enjoyed themselves in my earlier films. Vikram Prabhu’s character as a rowdy will not be larger than life in ths film. Shedding the image of a hero, Vikram has given his best shot and was at  home in both the family scenes and the romantic segments. Nothing will feel out of place in this film that’s designed for the mass audience,” says the director. “In fact, there was room for an item number by Yuvan but we made a conscious decision to stay away from packaging the film with such material.”

Does he perhaps think that the audience may have had its fill of masala entertainers? “There won’t be any illogical or contrived fights in the film. It is all situational. The means that the protagonist adopts also are very practical,” he says. “You could say there is a method to hs madness. Even the dialogues are very subtle. The human side of the hero gets exposed when he falls in love with the character played perfectly by Manjima Mohan,” says the director.

The film also sees the introduction of Kavin, famous for his role in the popular television soap,  Saravanan Meenakshi. Director Prabhakaran says his character is crucial to the plot of this film, and hopes the film will strike a chord with fans.
