Debutant director’s film inspired by Andha 7 Natkal

Music composers turning actors has almost become a cliché these days. And so, we have Bharani, a composer who has moved over to direction and plans to balance both roles.
On his debut directorial venture Ondikatta, Bharani, who has composed music for films like Parvai Ondre Pothume, Charlie Chaplin and Sundara Travels, says he had the script in his mind for over five years now.
“I could not find a producer till my friend, Dharmarajan, chipped in. He has played a pivotal role in the story too.”

An avid admirer of the K Bhagyaraj school of filmmaking, the debutant director says one of his favourite cinematic moments was the climax of Andha 7 Natkal. His script, he says, based on the last lines of that film, and Bharani believes it will have a strong impact on the audience.

“Revealing what it is will go against the interests of my producer and distributors. So I’ll just say I’ve tried to shape the story as well as I can. The dialogues play a big role in keeping the audience hooked,” he says.
Bharani also has good things to say about his female lead, Neha, and adds that Vikram Jagadeesan, an erstwhile character artiste, will play the male lead. “It’s a big break for him.”

The new director expects women to be moved by the climax. He believes  that the success of his film “hinges a lot on their acceptance.”
On whether his film has any message, he says, “If you read between the lines, there is a message that life has to be lived without wishing for a second chance.” With post-production currently going on, the filmmaker is eyeing an early June release.
