CHENNAI: A lower court in the city came to the rescue of actress Namitha, who was facing the threat of eviction from her residence in Nungambakkam. The court restrained the house owner from evicting her and granted her interim stay till January 12.

The XIII Assistant Judge G Shanthi granted the interim reprieve to Namitha, who is known for her glamorous roles in films. She is also the platform speaker of the AIADMK.

According to Namitha, she was residing in the ground floor of an apartment building on Veerabadran Street and has been regularly paying Rs15, 000 per month as rent. However, the owner Karuppiah Nagarathinam asked her to vacate the premises recently and also threatened her manager with dire consequences through his henchmen. He also threatened to disconnect electricity and water supply and throw her out of the house physically, she said.

Namitha also said the house owner had, on many occasions, asked her help to inaugurate various events, which she did without any monetary consideration. If Nagarathinam evicted her she would be put to “great damage and hardship,” the actress said adding that the balance of convenience is also in her favour.
