Kamal jubilant about K Vishwanath’s Dada Saheb Phalke Award

Kamal Haasan, who is quite active on Twitter, expressed his joy following the announcement that ace fi lmmaker K Vishwanath would be honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for 2016. The renowned director has been conferred the award for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.

The Dada Saheb Phalke Award, which comprises the Golden Lotus medallion, will be presented to K Vishwanath on May 3rd at the National Awards ceremony, along with a cash prize of `10 lakhs and a shawl. He will be honoured with the award by the President. Kamal Haasan has worked with the veteran fi lmmaker on many fi lms, including Sagara Sangamam (Salangai Oli), Swathi Muthyam (Sippikkul Muthu), and Subhasankalpam.

The National Award-winning Swati Mutyam was, in fact, India’s offi cial entry to the 59th Academy Awards under the Best Foreign Language Film category. Kamal Hassan said through his offi cial twitter handle, “K Vishwanath sir is a Dada Saheb Palke award winner. In his humility he would say ‘I am lucky’. Truth is Indians are lucky. So am I.” He went on to add, “I thank you with glistening eyes Vishwanath sir for Sagara Sangamam. Your fame is mine and vice-versa”. K Vishwanath is also a Padma Shri awardee who has bagged several other awards including fi ve National awards and 10 Filmfare Awards.
