Villainy comes naturally to me: Sam Paul

After being an advocate, entrepreneur, philanthropist, educationalist and producer, now Sam Paul plays the role of a villain in Jayam Ravi’s Vanamagan. Talking to CE, Sam says, “I play an evil cop in the film and face off against Jayam Ravi. Prakash Raj is the main villain but I have fight sequences with the former too.”

Sam, who has been travelling with the crew for almost a month, has been shooting near Tirupati. “We also shot in Bangkok for the jungle sequences. The story is about an Andaman tribe, and so we have shot in dense jungles around Bangkok.” Revealing details about Ravi’s role, he says, “The character is of an alpha male in a tribe. Ravi is a thorough gentleman.”

Sam Paul who shares a good friendship with the film’s director, Vijay, thinks of him as a “younger brother”. He says, “Vijay has given me a good role, and now I’m getting more offers because of him. He has a keen eye for detail that I’ve rarely seen in the industry.”
The film is about how industrialisation affects a tribal colony, according to Sam. He says he would like to do more films. “It is fun to be part of films. I will wait for the release of Vanamagan before taking up more offers. Vijay tells me that I’m a good actor. I think villainy comes to me naturally (laughs).”
He also hopes to work with Rajinikanth and Trisha sometime. Vanamagan, which will have its audio launch on April 22, is slated for a May release.
