For the love of a beagle!

Director RV Satheesh is upbeat about his debut directorial venture Juliyum Naalu Perum, which features an American Beagle in a pivotal role. He says the film revolves around a dog that has ‘special powers’. He’s already working on his next titled Naai Sekar. Talking about Juliyum…, he says the plot is about the dog abduction racket.

“Several dogs are abducted in foreign countries to be sold in India. People often don’t pay attention to how dogs are abducted nor take the issue seriously. There are sub-plots involving other actors,” he shares adding that the film has a generous dose of graphics as well. The film features Amuthavanan  of TV fame in the lead, along with George, Yoganand, and Alya Mansa in important roles.

Satheesh was working for a corporate firm before getting into films. “Though films were on my mind, I wanted a practical approach to the craft. Once I started focusing on Juliyum… I realised the soul of a film is at the edit table,” he adds.

Ask him about working with the dog, and he laughs, “Taking close-ups of the dogs wasn’t easy. We had to wait for days to capture an emotion. It is quite tough to work with animals. This is an issue that people can relate to.”

The makers are planning to release Juliyum Naalu Perum by mid-March.
