A day after film director V.A. Shrikumar Menon made his intention to go ahead with directing a movie based on Jananpith laureate M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s celebrated novel Randamoozham, Aswathy Nair, the author’s daughter put up a Facebook post warning any comment on a matter under jurisdiction could invite contempt of court. Those committing such statements may do so at their own risk, she says.

“In the wake of the many comments and statements being circulated in the media regarding the movie ‘Randamoozham,’ I would like to demystify certain aspects of the discussions. As such the subject matter is under subjudice and Anybody making any comment on the facts about the movie may do so at their own risk as it might turn out to be contempt of court. ‘Randamoozham’ is a masterpiece work of my father Shri MT Vasudevan Nair and no one can make any claims on its rights as on date. We have filed the case in the court to get back the script and that is our priority. Once that is done only my father Sri M. T. Vasudevan Nair will decide as to who will do the movie and how it will be presented. This project is after all my father’s dream, which we hope to make a reality in the best way possible. May God be with us,” reads the post.

The author, upon retracting from associating with Menon for the making of a movie based on Randamoozham, had approached Kozhikode Addtional Munsiff Court demanding to get his script back. The move came as a reaction to Menon’s lack of initiative towards the making of the movie four years from handing over the complete script. In an agreement, the director had promised to make the movie three years from the date of submission of the script.

In between, Menon got involved in the making of his debut directorial Odiyan starring Mohanlal. Once the writer approached the court, Menon attempted to convince him several times, but the author stood firm.
Later, he made it clear that matters regarding the case rest with his lawyer.
Business tycoon BR Shetty was supposed to bankroll the movie which was to have Mohanlal playing the titular role of Bhima. Many renowned names in Indian cinema were touted to be a part of the film, planned for a 2019 takeoff. However, after the fall-out between the writer and director, Shetty had clarified that he would go ahead with the making of a film based on Mahabharatha, no matter who directs it.
