Deepika Padukone, who tied the knot with Ranveer Singh last month in Italy’s Lake Como, is all set to play acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in Meghna Gulzar’s next film. The ‘Tamasha’ actress will team up with the ‘Raazi’ director for the film which will tackle the issue of acid violence in India. While we know that DP is playing the lead role, little was known about the actor opposite her. Speculations are rife that Rajkummar Rao, who bagged the Best Actor Award at Star Screen Awards 2018, has been approached for the film.
A report in a leading daily suggested that the ‘Stree’ actor has been approached to be part of the film and his character is quite important in the context of the film. While Rajkummar Rao’s role is small, its substantial to the film and the ‘Fanney Khan’ actor is also excited about it.
“But the role is substantial and has excited Rao. He has not yet worked with Deepika. A role that drives back home a social message has excited that actor. Rao is never excited about the length of the roles. He did a superb cameo in Raabta which got many people talking especially for his make-up among other things,” a trade source told Asian Age.
Rajkummar Rao is yet to sign the dotted lines for the film but he is soon expected to do so, according to the report. Interestingly, this is the first time the ‘Newton’ actor will be paired opposite Deepika Padukone.
On the professional front, the power-packed performer has ‘Made in China’ and another horror comedy in his kitty.

Talking about Deepika, the leggy lass will start shooting for the film from next year. This will be DP’s first film post her wedding with Ranveer Singh. The Bollywood diva was last seen in ‘Padmaavat’, which set the box office on fire.
