Entrusted with the BGM of Mohini, which is set for release this Friday, music composer Aruldev believes he is richer for the experience of working on the horror thriller, directed by Madesh. Having assisted Vidyasagar during the making of the filmmaker’s Madhurey, Aruldev says he knows the expectations of the mass director.
With the film shot extensively in London, save for the opening frames in Chennai, Aruldev feels it was imperative to have his score reflect the darkness of the script. “Among the highlights is a car chase shot in the night where the BGM effect had to be on par with Hollywood scores. I could not use too many instruments or the effect would have been lost,” he says.
Aruldev candidly admits that horror films are not easy to handle for a composer. “There’s a lot of responsibility; the music has to inject fear in the minds of the audience. And the mood has to be sustained till the climax unfolds.”
He’s especially proud of his work on a particular sequence that won him the director’s approval. “The sequence has Trisha clinging to a rope for dear life and the director felt my music really highlighted the panic she feels.”

Aruldev says he truly believes that filmmaking is all about team work. “If my work gets noticed that is great, but what really matters is the reward of the audience verdict for the film as a whole,” he says.
