Bigg Boss was a platform for growth: Kamal Haasan

Express News Service

CHENNAI: This time last year, one of the biggest surprises in the entertainment industry was Kamal Haasan announcing that he would be hosting Bigg Boss Tamil. Some thought that the show was lowbrow for a star like Kamal Haasan, who himself thought of it as a ‘social experiment’.

With Season 2 of Bigg Boss Tamil being launched today, the actor tells us that he still thinks of it as a social experiment. “It doesn’t cease to be that just because I am a politician now. Back then, what attracted me was the demographic and me being able to talk to them, with them. I couldn’t reveal my plans to the wider audience then but I did use the platform for growth in the trajectory I was on,” he says.

Where does he see the path leading to? He isn’t sure, but believes it to be an ‘important one’. “Season 2 has to be better than Season 1. That is the only given. Or taken,” he says, chuckling at his word play. He believes that the show will address some of the issues from the first season. “There were complaints from contestants that the complete picture wasn’t shown,” he says. “You cannot show 24/7 of what one person is doing. Participants should understand that life itself offers limited exposure.”

He quips, “Even politicians are upset that their faces aren’t shown in the news when their names are read out.” He believes that he is much more educated and has a better understanding of people this time around. “But that doesn’t mean I am wiser. I am still on the path of learning. My purpose is now out in the open. I have intentionally placed myself in open light.” In signature Kamal style, he signs off by using a Bigg Boss line: “Naan odavum mudiyadhu, oliyavum mudiyadhu.”
