SC refuses to stall Kaala’s release; says everyone is waiting for the film

By Express News Service

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to stall the release of the Rajnikanth-starrer Kaala. The movie is slated for release on Thursday.

A bench comprising Justices A K Goel and Ashok Bhushan refused the plea, seeking an injunction against the film’s release, filed by K S Rajashekaran.

“You want an injunction against the release of the movie. Everybody is waiting for the film to be released,” the bench told the counsel appearing for the petitioner.

The petitioner had moved the court against the Madras High Court’s order, which posted to hear the plea on June 16.

The petitioner claims that the producer of the movie used the petitioner’s copyright protected work in the movie and stated that he had authored the fictional story about Chola King Karikalan when he was studying in Class XII.

The court also said that if the petitioner is the original copyright owner he is entitled to damages, which he should claim from the High Court.

The Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce had earlier called for a ban on the film in the state following the actor-politician’s remarks on the release of Cauvery water.
