Today, Sri Thenandal Films, the producers of actor Vijay’s latest film decided to remove the controversial GST dialogues from the movie following opposition from Tamil Nadu chapter of the BJP.
Vijay’s ‘Mersal’, which was released on Wednesday has landed in another conteroversy with doctors in Tamil Nadu protesting against the film.
Directed by Atlee, ‘Mersal’ is about Vetri and Maaran (both played by Vijay) who battles the medical mafia.
The doctors are reportedly mifed with the portrayal of the medical industry. Protestors also allege that Vijay advises people to visit private hospitals rather than government due to absence of good services the latter provides.
According to a report in Times of India, doctors are also sharing links of pirated versions of the movie available online. They also urge paramedical staff to boycott the film.
The report cites Indian Medical Association president Dr TN Ravishankar where he says, “”We decided not to approach the media or court for relief. We will only be giving more publicity for the movie. Instead, if we spread the movie links on webpages, it will hit their collections. I hope they will realise then.”

The film encountered problems previously when a petitioner had sought interim stay on the movie’s release. Later, the makers were also asked to get a No Objection Certificate from the Animal Welfare Board too.
Soon, the release of the film was also feared to encounter problems when Tamil Nadu producers and the governement faced a stand-off over the imposition of entertainment tax in addition to GST. The issue resolved when the government agreed to lower the tax.
Directed by Atlee, ‘Mersal’ is about Vetri and Maaran who fights against the medical mafia. The film has broken Rajinkanth starrer ‘Kabali’s record in receiving the highest opening day collections in Tamil Nadu.
By collecting Rs 31 crore on opening day, ‘Mersal’, Vijay’s has scored way above ‘Kabali’, which had pulled in Rs 23.3 crore last year.
