Another milestone for Mersal

Vijay-starrer Mersal has become the first South Indian film to get an emoji on Twitter. The emoji which shows Vijay from the film’s first look will appear every time the hashtag ‘Mersal’ or key words associated with it are used. Earlier this year, Salman Khan’s Tubelight became the first Indian film to have an emoji. Producer Murali Ramasamy of Thenandal film says, “Mersal is our 100th film, and we are elated to be associated with Vijay, AR Rahman, and Atlee.

We’re pushing the barrier and attempting various innovations to make this larger-than-life film even larger. Twitter has become an integral part of communication now. We are very happy to associate with Sony Music India and Twitter India.”

The film’s album by AR Rahman will be released at the audio launch event on August 20, which sources confirm will have the Oscar-winning composer performing live. Vijay’s friend, Sanjeev, who has starred alongside him in films such as Nilaave Vaa, Badri and Pudhiya Geethai, will be the main host at the event, which will be telecast live on television.

Meanwhile, with the first two songs, Aalaporaan Thamizhan and Neethanae (which released on Thursday), opening to positive response, GV Prakash has revealed that he has lent his voice for a song titled Mersal Arasan which is expected to be the introduction song.

We already know that there’ll be a theme song, as well as another one that’s sung by Sid Sriram.
Directed by Atlee, Mersal also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha, Nithya Menen, SJ Suryah and Sathyaraj.
