Know The Two Details You Cannot Change Multiple Times On Aadhar

Aadhaar card is one of the most important documents for Indian citizens.

Usually, people keep updating the address on their Aadhaar as many live on rent or get transferred because of their work, hence it can be changed multiple times.

A government identity document, Aadhaar is a 12-digit identification number that has details about an individual’s biometric and demographic data including iris scans, fingerprints, name, address, gender and date of birth. It is one of the world’s largest biometric identification systems and is accessed for various government services and benefits, opening a bank account, getting a SIM card and much more.

Since it has become one of the most important documents for Indian citizens, it is important to make sure all the details are correct, otherwise, you may face problems. Although there are a few details which can be updated multiple times, however, there are two pieces of information that can be updated just once and need to be filled with much care.

Usually, people keep updating the address as many live on rent or get transferred because of their work, hence it can be changed multiple times. However, the birth date cannot be changed. So, if the date of birth on Aadhaar is wrong, then make sure you update it to the correct one only. There have been various instances where people write a random date of birth on the Aadhar card and after admission to the school, parents get it changed. Then during the board exams, once again parents attempt to get it changed. Hence, enter the correct details only.

The second detail which needs to be filled in extremely carefully is the name because it cannot be updated repeatedly. Some people fill out their nicknames or initials while making the Aadhaar Card and do not pay attention to the spelling. However, later if you try to get your name changed, it will not be possible. Hence, make sure you maintain the same name in all the official documents. As per UIDAI, there can be an error in name and date of birth once, but the mistake cannot happen repeatedly.

Nishu Shukla, in charge of the Ghaziabad Aadhaar Seva Kendra of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDIA), said that updating the name and date of birth on the Aadhaar Card requires many formalities which are difficult to complete. Hence, people should be careful while filling out details.
