Byju’s Elevates Jiny Thattil As CTO Following Departure Of Anil Goel

Byju’s has elevated Jiny Thattil as its Chief Technology Officer. He takes over from Anil Goel who is leaving the company after three years as CTO.

Goel, a former Amazon executive, was one of the highest paid CTOs in the country, according to people familiar with the matter. He and Byju’s mutually decided to part ways, according to one person familiar with the matter.

The internal memo said that Thattil has successfully delivered large-scale consumer products for Byju’s global markets, adding that he had led large and geo-distributed engineering teams through various stages of growth and transformation while also contributing to post-acquisition integration of various subsidiaries of Byju’s.

The departure of Goel comes amid a broader restructuring at Byju’s as it looks to reach break-even next year. The startup has eliminated thousands of jobs in the recent quarters and clubbed some businesses together. Byju’s CFO also recently quit.

“Jiny’s extensive multi-product and multi-geography experience and demonstrated leadership skills make him the ideal candidate for this crucial role as we continue to rebuild for sustainability. This appointment is part of our ongoing strategic restructuring and reorientation of our leadership team to further enhance operational efficiency,” Byju’s said in its statement, signed as the investor relations team.
