Stock Market Update: Sensex Flat, Nifty Above 19,800; Mamaearth Rises 12%

Sensex Today: The equity market started Friday’s trading session on a cautious note amid tepid cues from global peers. The S&P BSE Sensex opened almost unmoved and was quoting around the 66,000-mark. The NSE Nifty is seen hovering around the 19,800-level for the fourth straight day this morning.

Among the Sensex 30 shares, NTPC, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finance and Mahindra & Mahindra were few of the early movers, while Bharti Airtel and HCL Technologies looked slippery.

In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index was up 0.3 per cent, and the SmallCap 0.6 per cent.

Elsewhere, European markets rose marginally on Thursday even as the ECB’s October meeting minutes showed a more concerned central bank regarding growth and a clear attempt to stick to ‘high for longer’. Energy shares rose as the report suggested the energy bills in the UK were set to rise by 5 per cent.

Global Cues

While the US market was shut overnight for Thanksgiving holiday, and have a truncated trading session later tonight; markets nearer-home in Asia were mixed, with only Japan’s Nikkei firm.
