Wiping off last session’s gains, the Sensex on Wednesday slipped marginally on the back of investors selling late in the session to book year-end profit ahead of the futures and options (F&O) contract expiry.
The BSE Sensex shed 2.76 points, or 0.01%, closing at 26210.68, while Nifty inched up 2.00 points, or 0.02%, ending at 8034.85.
Oil & gas sector fell 0.27%, capital goods 0.09% and metals 0.07% while healthcare rose 0.82%, FMCG 0.61% and IT 0.22%.
Reliance Industries lost 1.15%followed by Tata Steel, shares of which were down 1.13%. However, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, PowerGrid and SBI too ended in the red. Stocks of Coal India, Wipro,
Dr Reddy’s, Lupin, M&M, ITC, Axis Bank, Adani Ports and HUL, gained.
Besides, rupee depreciated 18 paise against the dollar at 68.24. BSE small-cap and mid-cap ended 0.87% and 0.53% higher, respectively.
