BSE, NSE briefly in green but fall below red line on Budget day

The BSE and National Stock Exchange indices opened in the green albeit only slightly above the red line on Budget day.

In opening hours, the BSE Sensex was trading at 27,689.18, up 33.22 or 0.12% above the red line. The NSE Nifty index was trading at 8,566.25, up 0.06%.

It soon shed its gains and the 30-share index was trading at 27,651.82 down 4.14 or 0.01% and the 50-share Nifty was at 8,556.06 down 5.25 or 0.06% from Tuesday’s close.

While the Union Budget 2017-18 presentation was advanced to February 1 on Wednesday, it is slightly uncertain now whether it will actually happen.

The untimely death of ex Union Minister E Ahamed in the wee hours of Wednesday has led to the government wondering and entering discussions about the presentation of the Budget today. The government will be reaching out to the Opposition to find out what the feel about the issue. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had reached the North Block with his papers.

On the BSE, the top gainers were Unitech 5.18%, JP Associates 3.33%, Grasim, 2.76%. The top losers were Idea Cellular 4.40%, Jet Airways 2.61%, Infosys 2.35%, HCL Tech 2.14%, Aurobindo Pharma 2.10%
